TECHNOLOGY, EDUCATION & APPLICATION

Programs in this area navigate Club members through ethical use of the internet, train students to be effective users of technology, provide a fun and secure online community and teach basic computer skills.

Skill Tech:
Basic Training Through three levels of animated, interactive lessons and hands-on, instructor-led group activities, members learn skills for Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Digital Image Pro.   These basic skills ensure success for school and workplace performance as well as expand their creativity. Skill Tech II Skill Tech II is a Microsoft-funded Club Tech program designed to teach advanced, yet practical technology skills to Club members.  Participants learn about hardware, networking and basic programming languages.  Computer hardware and networking knowledge helps youth to be productive, responsible users of technology and helps prepare them for future careers.

NetSmartz

NetSmartz is an Internet safety program with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.  Members learn to safely communicate, play games, conduct research and, for older members, make purchases online.  The Internet offers many social, educational, and entertainment resources for young people.  Learning to access and navigate the Net safely and ethically allows youth to benefit from resources while minimizing potential risks.

YNet
YNet is a secure online community where teens can engage in live discussions with peers, play games, listen to music, enter contests and discover the latest news in global issues and entertainment.  Clubs need a safe place on the Internet for teens to participate in discussion groups and share their Club experiences with others across the globe.

Club Tech
Club Tech spans the five core program areas: Skill Tech and Skill Tech II; Digital Arts Suite and Digital Arts Festivals; Core Tech; Activity Exchange; and YNet.  Technology aptitude is more essential for success in school and in the workplace, and the Boys & Girls Clubs offer resources to help members become more creative and technologically competent.
