December 22-Longhorn’s Steakhouse of Statesboro hosted a Christmas breakfast for Club members on Saturday, December 22.
Employees dressed up as elves and served Club members plates of pancakes and bacon.
After eating, Club members visited Santa and picked out a present from under the Christmas tree. Approximately 20 Club members attended the breakfast. Special thanks to Longhorn’s for making the Christmas season special for our members!

December 21, 2007- This past year has been quite a busy one for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bulloch County (BGC).
In January, Club members, along with the Statesboro Blues Band, kicked off the year in style by performing a “Motown Revue” at
the Averitt Center for the Arts. In March, the BGC hosted BGC Week, a five-day celebration designed to promote the positive ways Clubs impact communities. In addition, Club member Nate Huff received the Club’s coveted Youth of the Year award. When graduation time rolled around, BGC member Sean LaGree was awarded the Kathy Hopper Brunson Scholarship for his academic success and service to the BGC. hundred youth who participated in its 10-week summer program. September was by far the busiest month for the Club. On Sept. 15, the Club hosted a Day for Kids, a celebration designed to encourage parents to spend time with their children. The Club’s 2nd Annual Steak & Burger Dinner followed on Sept. 20, and one week later, on September 28, Tracy Ham’s Clubs for Kids Golf Tournament was held to benefit the Club. In October, the Club’s Teen Center received the 2007 Georgia Area Council State Program Award for its “Just Press Pause: Abstinence Until Marriage” campaign. In mid-November, the Club hosted a Thanksgiving Dinner for Club members and their families. The dinner was held in the gymnasium of the Club’s Denmark Unit, and over 170 people participated in the event. This month, the Club has been celebrating the Christmas season with various special activities. On Dec. 18, Club members visited the Guido Gardens in Metter to view the large display of Christmas lights. On Dec. 19, volunteer Mrs. Bobby Altmiller and Club members in grades kindergarten through 2nd performed “An Evening of Harmony” for Club parents. Mrs. Bobby played the piano while Club members sang various Christmas carols, including “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” Finally, on Dec. 21, members of the Club’s teen center took a special trip to Savannah to go ice skating.

December 20-On Wed., Dec. 19, music filled the air at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bulloch County as volunteer Mrs. Bobby Altmiller and Club members performed “An Evening of Harmony” for Club parents and staff. The performance took place at 5:30 p.m. in the gymnasium of the Club’s Denmark Unit.
Mrs. Altmiller played the piano while Club members sang a variety of Christmas carols, including “Up on the Housetop,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells.” Club members also showed their patriotic side by singing “My Country Tis of Thee” while waving American flags. At the conclusion of the presentation, Gene Gardner, Unit Director for the Denmark Unit, presented Mrs. Altmiller with a certificate of appreciation for her dedication to the Club.

This past summer, Mrs. Altmiller’s son, Bob Altmiller, donated a brand new piano to the Club in honor of his mother. Mrs. Altmiller now plays that piano during her weekly visits to the Club.Mrs. Altmiller, who will be 77 next week, enjoys the time she spends at the Club.
"I feel so lucky to be able to volunteer here,” she said. “Thank you all so much for being a part of my life.”

December 18, 2007- Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bulloch County (BGC) recently celebrated the Christmas season by performing a Christmas pageant for Club parents.
Club members in grades kindergarten, first, second and fifth grades participated in the program. Club members began the performance by forming a line and reciting a Christmas poem.

Each Club member had been assigned a different letter of the alphabet, and when their turn came, they recited their part of the poem,which began with the letter they had received.As Club members recited the poem, other members decorated a small Christmas tree that was on display. Club members sang “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” at the end of the performance. Christmas cookies and punch were also served for Club members and parents to enjoy. Special thanks to BGC staff member Annie Albritton for organizing the Christmas pageant.
